I am grateful to have known Senator Moynihan at the time in my life that I did. Teenagers in the lightly supervised '70s were exposed to an unusual array of insalubrious influences. I admired Moynihan greatly, and my exposure to him--through family and work on his campaign and, later, in his Senate office--offset, at least in part, the pull of some of those other forces at work in the adolescent culture of the time.
I will miss him.
