As noted last night, congressional candidate Scott Murphy said at a campaign event that he had a meeting with President Obama's political advisers in "the situation room" at the White House. If true, this would be a highly inappropriate use of a room run by the National Security Council and reserved for dealing with national security matters around the clock, as this paper by former Situation Room staffers makes clear. So, is it true? The White House won't say. The press shop hasn't responded to a number of emails and phone calls through the day, and the Murphy campaign is maintaining radio silence as well. If Murphy simply got it wrong, wouldn't the White House say so and clarify that the meeting was in a different room?
