In this video, our French allies are calling in air support, hoping the Air Force will bomb Afghan insurgents with a GBU-38. But the plane, which took off from Bagram, spots a nearby school and refuses to risk major casualties. Instead, they will only perform a strafe pass, trying to intimidate the enemies to leaving their posts by flying low and firing on their position. ABC News calls this an act of "courage." It never ceases to amaze me how far out of its way the military will go to prevent civilian casualties, even if it adds to the risk of its own troops or allies.
