Four-term Republican congressman Connie Mack will be running for the U.S. Senate in Florida, Politico's David Cantanese reported yesterday. Mack, who passed on a bid to challenge incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson earlier this year, will join a crowded field that includes former Republican senator George LeMieux.
Mack comes from a long line of political figures. His father, Connie Mack III, was a U.S. senator from Florida from 1989 to 2001. Both his great-grandfather and his step-great-grandfather were U.S. senators from Texas in the mid-20th century. Mack is married to California congresswoman Mary Bono Mack.
