A Pew Research Center study from last year found that Twitter reaction to events is often at odds with public opinion. There is perhaps no better example of this phenomenon than the Hobby Lobby decision.

Following the decision, the Supreme Court's favorability rating among independents went from -20 (32 percent favorable/52 percent unfavorable) to +16 (53 percent favorable/37 percnet unfavorable). The poll finds that 47 percent of Americans overall support the Hobby Lobby decision, while 41 percent oppose it. Republicans and independents overwhelmingly support the decision, while Democrats strongly oppose it:
