In the final days of the campaign, the Illinois Republican party and allied conservative groups are hitting Democratic congressional candidate Bill Foster over allegations he abused his former wife.According to court documents from Foster's divorce proceedings in March 1996, the Democrat's then-wife claimed Foster "pushed, shoved, and caused physical abuse and emotional harm" to her. Foster was asked about the allegations during a recent television interview, and his initial reaction makes it into a new Illinois GOP web video. Watch that below:
In addition, Republican PAC American Future Fund has a minute-long radio ad claiming that Foster "has a problem with women."
"Can you trust a man who allegedly harms and threatens the ones he's supposed to care about most?" the voiceover asks. Listen to the ad here:
Foster, who served in Congress from 2008 to 2011, is seeking the seat currently occupied by Republican Judy Biggert. Foster and Biggert are in a close race that Real Clear Politics rates a "toss-up."
