Mike Lee, a former Supreme Court clerk for Justice Alito, is an experienced appellate litigator. (He’s the son of President Reagan's legendary solicitor general, Rex Lee, no less.) Lee also served the federal government as an assistant U.S. attorney, and the state government of Utah as Governor Jon Huntsman's General Counsel.

Most important, Lee is now Utah's junior Senator, and a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which occasioned this brilliant Socratic lecture on Obamacare and the Constitution's Commerce Clause.

And, amazingly, he is only thirty-nine years old.

In other words, Mike Lee ought to be considered a potential candidate for the first Supreme Court vacancy to be filled by a Republican president – especially with the traditional rule of "senatorial courtesy" weighing in his favor.
