CNN reports that the commandant of the Marine Corps is ordering the personnel under his command to:

... "save every round, every gallon of gas," and to "take every single aspect or opportunity in training to get the most bang for the buck"…

This, of course, is a consequence of the cuts in defense spending built into the sequester.

While the Marines are using ammunition parsimoniously, the Department of Homeland Security is acquiring it profligately having recently “issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition.”

That's a lot of bullets and one wonders if the assaulters at DHS could be persuaded to share with the Marines. And, if not, then, as this Forbespiece asks, what does DHS need the ammunition for and why does it have money to buy bullets when the Marines do not?
