The latest dire consequence of the Sequester may be an increase in the number of cases of the flu and, consequently, increased absenteeism among the civilian Air Force employees.

As Eric Katz writes at Government Executive:

For thousands of civilians in the Air Force, this could be a stuffy, fever-y couple of months. Due to budget constraints, the Air Force will no longer offer free influenza shots to non-military employees. In 2012, about 12,000 civilians received the free flu vaccines.

Seems the Air Force has been making the free inoculations available for only two years so it is not as though the benefit is dug in that deeply. Also, according to a story in the Los Angeles Times, under the headline "Why Does a Flu Shots Cost So Much?"

Stop by your local CVS or Walgreens and you’ll shell out $30 or so for the pleasure of getting poked by a needle behind a suggestion of a curtain.

Not, one thinks, exactly bread from the mouths of babes.
