The State Department announced today that it will be sending a deputy secretary to visit Egypt.

"Deputy Secretary Bill Burns will visit Cairo, Egypt from July 14 to July 16. While in Cairo, he will meet with interim government officials as well as civil society and business leaders. In all these meetings, he will underscore U.S. support for the Egyptian people, an end to all violence, and a transition leading to an inclusive, democratically elected civilian government," the State Department's spokesman said in a statement released today.

Burns will be the highest ranking U.S. official to visit Egypt since the coup.
