The unemployment rate, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, is now 7.9 percent:

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 171,000 in October, and the unemployment
rate was essentially unchanged at 7.9 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
reported today. Employment rose in professional and business services, health care,
and retail trade.

Last month, the unemployment rate was lower, but fewer jobs were added. "The unemployment rate decreased to 7.8 percent in September, and total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 114,000," the Bureau of Labor Statistics last month.
