A new ad set to be released later today alleges that Mississippi senator Thad Cochran is in part responsible for the release of 5 Taliban commanders from Gitmo. The ad, titled "Cochran Supported the Release of 5 Terrorists," is being released by the Campaign for American Values, a super PAC run by Gary Bauer.
"My Super PAC, Campaign for American Values, is jumping into next week's Mississippi Senate runoff election between incumbent Thad Cochran and his conservative challenger, State Senator Chris McDaniel. CAV will be running an ad blasting Thad Cochran for being the first Republican senator to publicly endorse Barack Obama's nomination of Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense. Click here to watch the ad," Bauer says in a statement that will be released to supporters later today.
"Hagel has a terrible record on Israel and, as you may know, he personally signed off on the deal to release five Taliban leaders, including two wanted war criminals, from Guantanamo Bay. The overwhelming majority of Senate Republicans opposed Hagel because they knew he would be Obama's puppet. But not Thad Cochran.
"Mississippi conservatives can do better than Thad Cochran. Last year, Cochran earned only a 60% score from the American Conservative Union. He's got a 57% score from Heritage Action and 56% from Club for Growth. Michael Bloomberg, the liberal, pro-amnesty, anti-Second Amendment former mayor of New York City, is spending $250,000 to support Cochran. What does that tell you?!
"My bottom line is this: I can't remember the last time I read Thad Cochran's name in a headline or heard about him leading the charge during a major battle here in Washington.
