Vice President Joe Biden incorrectly stated early today that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords had been "shot and mortally wounded":

"Gabby Giffords, my good friend, was shot and mortally wounded," Biden claimed.

Biden made the comment as he tried to gin up support for gun control.
