Biden Gets His Own History Wrong—Again

Last night, Vice President Joe Biden told a Seattle audience that "Only 13 people in American history have ever served as long" he served in the Senate, according to a pool report from the event. It is a line he has used before. "I’ve served longer in the Senate, I’m almost embarrassed to admit, than all but 13 people in the history of the United States of America," Biden said at an event last month in North Carolina.
Just keep on smilin'.
But last night, Biden got his own history wrong—just as he did when he used the line last month.
Fourteen senators in the history of America served in the Senate longer than the vice president, not 13 as Biden would have one believe.
Here's the list of those who have served longer than Biden, as it appears on the Senate's own website:
1. Robert C. Byrd (D-WV)
Biden made his remarks at a fundraiser for Washington senator Maria Cantwell at the Westin Seattle hotel, where he also said that "Republicans have changed the law so you get arrested if you do vote."
