"It's time to take Economics 101 to Washington," Bills said. "We believe in liberty, we believe in limited government, we believe in free enterprise, we believe in family values and the sanctity of human life, and we all believe Washington needs a good dose of Economics 101."
Bills, who will face Democratic incumbent Amy Klobuchar in the general election, had significant support from supporters of Ron Paul's presidential campaign. The Paulite faction numbered between 40 and 50 percent of the delegates at the Minnesota state convention, many of whom were first-time attendees.
Update: This post has been updated to reflect the fact that Bills has won the endorsement of the state party, but not the nomination. The primary will be held on August 14, and candidates have until June 5 to file to run in the race. Bills's opponents at the convention, Dan Severson and Pete Hegseth, have said they would not compete in the primary without the state party's endorsement.
