There's a deep lesson in all of this. You know the old saw about problem solving and hammers. Sophisticates are always clucking at the backwards rubes who think that every problem is a nail because they lack any imagination. But the elites are often guilty of the same kind of narrow thinking. Except that they don't even have a hammer—which can actually be useful in the real world, from time to time.
You might just as easily say that when all you have is a smartphone, every problem looks like an app.
