Politico reports that Proposition 19, which would have legalized recreational marijuana in California, has failed:

Projections by California news outlets and the National Council of State Legislatures show the measure has gone down to defeat by a significant margin, despite a high-profile campaign that could have set a trend for the rest of the nation. Advocates had argued that the proposal, known as Proposition 19, would have provided the cash-strapped state with a significant revenue stream, while opponents contended the measure would have created legal and social chaos.

Considering the victories of Democrats Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown in California, it's safe to assume that the deciding votes against the legalization of marijuana were cast by voters who also supported liberal Democratic candidates.
