CNN Poll: Americans Oppose HHS Mandate 50% to 44%

CNN's results are roughly the same as two other recent polls: Rasmussen found that voters opposed Obama's policy 50% to 39%, and Pew found that voters opposed the policy 48% to 44%. A CBS/New York Times poll seems to be an outlier: It shows 61% of Americans support Obama's policy.
The Obama administration claims this policy will affect a trivial number of people, but the CNN poll found that 22% of American Catholics are morally opposed to the use of artificial birth control. That happens to be exactly the same percentage of Catholics who attend church weekly. But it really wouldn't matter if Obama were forcing a much smaller percentage of Americans to violate their consciences. As Ross Douthat wrote recently, "the argument that the state’s interests can trump religious liberties so long as the group of people being asked to violate their consciences is small enough is not an argument at all. It’s just a raw appeal to power."
