David Perdue, a Georgia businessman and cousin of former governor Sonny Perdue, has announced he will run for the Senate as a Republican. The Associated Press has the story:

Perdue is the cousin of former Gov. Sonny Perdue and is touting his experience in the private sector as the former CEO of Dollar General and Reebok. Perdue made the announcement Wednesday in a video on his campaign website, saying the federal government is out of control and a different kind of person is needed in Washington.

Perdue joins U.S. Reps. Paul Broun of Athens, Phil Gingrey of Marietta and Jack Kingston of Savannah — as well as former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel — as candidates in the Republican primary.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Jim Galloway links to the video from Perdue's Facebook page:

Earlier this week, Democrat MIchelle Nunn announced her entry into the race to succeed Republican Saxby Chambliss in the Senate.
