Decades?

President Obama used his Saturday morning radio address to rally support for the energy/climate change initiative he announced earlier in the week.  This is the plan whereby we can have it all.  No more coal, more expensive electricity, better weather, and a more robust economy.  One wonders why it is necessary to sell it at all.

But there are, of course, those deniers.  However, the president brushed them aside saying:

“Decades of carefully reviewed science tells us our planet is changing in ways that will have profound impacts on the world we leave to our children.”

But, one thinks, many people are at least agnostic about the climate claims of the day because those being confidently advanced just over three decades ago have not panned out and, indeed, seem to have been turned upside down.  In 1975, Newsweek was saying we faced the prospect of a new ice age that would put an end, more or less, to civilization as we knew it.

Well, Newsweek is gone and you could argue that civilization is on the ropes.  But it certainly isn't because the glaciers have returned.
