The staff of Senate Budget Committee ranking member Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) sends along this photo of the committee's meeting today:
The far side of the table was reserved for Republicans, while the near (emptier) side of the table for the Democrats. Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) is with Sessions at the head of the table, the only Democrat in the meeting at the time this photo was taken. Conrad had characterized today's meeting as a "markup" of his budget proposal, despite the fact that he had no intention of allowing amendments or even holding a vote on the proposal. It has been 1,085 days since the Democratic-controlled Senate has passed a budget. The Weekly Standard ArchivesBrowse 15 Years of the Weekly Standard
