The Syrian opposition to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad is gathering steam. Syrian soldiers, as Max Boot writes in this week's issue, "are defecting to the Free Syrian Army, which in recent days has reportedly attacked an intelligence headquarters outside of Damascus and a Baath party headquarters inside the capital."

NOW Lebanon has an exclusive interview with the leader of the Free Syrian Army, Riad Assaad, and asks, “What does the FSA currently require to beef up its position internally?”

Assaad: The creation of an independent buffer zone as well as humanitarian corridors would definitely provide us with a huge advantage. That should be done, of course, in coordination with the FSA. Weapons and ammunition are again a major issue.
