Foreign Policy in the 112th Congress
5:04 PM, Nov 10, 2010 • By JOHN NOONAN
An influential, bipartisan group of lawmakers and policy experts are set to discuss the major foreign policy challenges for the 112th Congress next week. The Foreign Policy Initiative's annual forum, Restoring America's Leadership of a Democratic World, has already been generating a fair share of buzz.
At the forum, Rep. Buck McKeon, prospective front-runner for Ike Skelton's spot atop the House Armed Services Committee, will roll out the blueprints for a new way forward on national security and defense. Joseph Lieberman is expected to lay out a framework for finishing the fights in Iraq and Afghanistan. On Monday, John McCain will give a keynote on America's unique role in foreign policy. On Tuesday, former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Anzar will deliver a keynote speech on a related topic -"Challenges to the West." Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia (and noted thorn in Vladimir Putin's side) Boris Nemstov will also deliver remarks.
The official announcement (with RSVP info) is below. THE WEEKLY STANDARD's Lee Smith and Bill Kristol are set to moderate panels and discussions.
