I Doubt

From the New York Times website:

“With Democrats increasingly anxious about the special election in Massachusetts on Tuesday and what it will mean for their big health care legislation, the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, told reporters in California Monday that the legislation would move forward no matter what. ‘Let’s remove all doubt,’ Ms. Pelosi said. ‘We will have health care one way or another.’”

The good news is that in a free country even a mighty Speaker of the House lacks the power to remove all doubt.

So I’ll brave her wrath, and say it: I doubt. I very much doubt, if Scott Brown wins in Massachusetts, that Nancy Pelosi will be able to persuade 217 other House Democrats to jam Obamacare down the throats of the American people. I even doubt that President Obama—who presumably hasn’t given up on having a successful presidency—will encourage her to go down so politically suicidal a path. So I very much doubt Nancy Pelosi will be able to do what she says she will do.
