If Wendy Davis Is ‘Pro-Life,’ I Am ‘Pro-Choice’

In a bid to confuse and/or deliberately mislead voters in her native Texas, gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis announced today that she is “pro-life.”
“I care about the life of every child: every child that goes to bed hungry, every child that goes to bed without a proper education, every child that goes to bed without being able to be a part of the Texas dream, every woman and man who worry about their children’s future and their ability to provide for that future,” Davis said, according to the Huffington Post. “I care about life and I have a record of fighting for people above all else.”
So while we’re reassigning monikers, I’d like to take the opportunity to explain why I am “pro-choice.” I, too, care about the life of every child. I care about every born or unborn child, wanted or not wanted, planned or unplanned. And I support their right to choose their own futures.
If Wendy Davis truly cared “about life” and “people above all else,” her June filibuster of a bill that would have set higher standards for abortion clinics and limited late-term abortions in Texas is a strange way of showing it.
