John Boehner has decided to make his case directly to the American people regarding the GOP's proposed debt ceiling solution. It's a smart move in at least one crucial respect -- Boehner is trying to force debate over a balanced budget amendment (and spending restraints more broadly), as public support for this part of the GOP's plan is shockingly high.
