House Homeland Security Committee chair Peter King of New York called the Obama adminsitration's decision today to try 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in front of a military tribunal a "long-awaited step in the right direction."
"As I have been saying since day one, these terror trials belong in a military commission at Guantanamo," King said in a statement. "I am absolutely shocked that it took Attorney General Holder 507 days to come to this realization."
King, who represents parts of Long Island, has been a vocal critic of the Obama administration's handling of the war on terror.
"Today’s reversal is yet another vindication of President Bush’s detention policies by the Obama administration, and is welcome news to the families of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, who will finally see long-awaited justice," King continued.
Meanwhile, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg told reporters today that a military trial for KSM would be "more appropriate," according to the Wall Street Journal.
