Iraq veteran and Republican Adam Kinzinger has defeated Democratic congresswoman Debbie Halvorson in Illinois's Eleventh District, and Republican Bobby Schilling, the owner of a pizza place in Moline, has defeated Democratic Rep. Phil Hare in Illinois's Seventeenth District. Our own Matthew Continetti had both of these races on his radar back in February and March of this year. Other incumbent Democrats in President Obama's home state have lost, including Rep. Bill Foster to Republican Bill Hultgren.
Meanwhile, in the Senate race for the seat held once by Obama, Republican Mark Kirk leads Democrat Alexi Giannoulias 48-46 with 90 percent of precincts reporting.
Back in the House races, Republican Bob Dold in Illinois's Tenth is holding on to a small lead with over 3,000 votes over Democrat Daniel Seals with 94 percent of precincts reporting. Just west in the Illinois Eighth, Republican Joe Walsh is holding tight over Democrat Rep. Melissa Bean by just over 90 votes.
