It isn't quite blood in the streets ... yet. But it is starting and who knows where it might end. Washington might even have to endure falling real estate prices and widespread unemployment and, well, what every other part of the country has been going through.

Of all places, the private sector and the great Washington growth industry have been hit, according to reporting in the Hill:

Lobbying giant Patton Boggs has laid off 65 lawyers and staff, including 23 from its Washington, D.C. practice, according to multiple reports.

The firm's revenue and net profits had fallen between 2011 and 2012. Lobbying revenue declined five percent from $48.4 to $46 million ...
