Tonight is the occasion of the annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, which Ron Fournier deplores:

Washington never looks more out of touch than it will this weekend, when movie stars, music moguls, media mavens and their advertisers join President Obama at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

For his part, Tom Brokow won't attend.  Because, you see, Lindsay Lohan was there last year, as he explained to Politico:

The breaking point for me was Lindsay Lohan ... She became a big star at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Give me a break.”

People out in the country, watching the event on television, might get the wrong idea about Washington and the media, as Brokow explains:

And I thought, ‘This is one of the issues that we have to address. What kind of image do we present to the rest of the country? Are we doing their business, or are we just a group of narcissists who are mostly interested in elevating our own profiles?’ And what comes through the screen ... is the latter, and not the former.”

Yeah, well there might be some people out there who suspected Washington and the media of narcissism, and worse, without even being aware that such an event took place and that someone named Lindsay Lohan was tarnishing the reputation of Washington and the media by her presence.  Must be quite a gal.

And, in the end, those same people might just think, "What the hell, let 'em party. For a couple of hours, the country will be safe."
