A List of People Chris Christie Likes to Smack Around*

(1) Loudmouths:

(2) Whiny union members:

(3) Liberal activist judges:

The political star of Governor Chris Christie in New Jersey is deservedly in the ascendant. He has confronted public employees and their avaricious unions (particularly teachers) with a long-overdue lesson in fiscal realism. Another fight that is at least as welcome is Christie’s bold decision not to reappoint Justice John Wallace, Jr., to the state supreme court. Anyone who cares about the constitutional exercise of political power should watch this struggle carefully. Christie is waging war against the judicial supremacy of the country’s most radical state court.

(4) Abortionists:

Part of Gov. Chris Christie’s belt-tightening plan for New Jersey was the termination of $7.5 million in public money for Planned Parenthood clinics in the state. But Democrats in the senate fought back, passing with a 30-10 majority a bill that reinstated the funding. That margin included several Republicans and was enough to be veto-proof. But when that veto actually came, Republicans wary of crossing Christie peeled off, and the measure failed 23-17.*

Now, Planned Parenthood facilities in the state are shuttering their doors...

All the while he managed to balance the budget. His approve/disapprove rating was 51%/36% last month (reminder: this is New Jersey). Maybe it's time for Mitch Daniels to re-visit his idea that a "truce" on social issues is somehow necessary or helpful in dealing with fiscal issues?

*Clarification: this list is by no means comprehensive, and I have no knowledge that Christie actually likes to figuratively smack his political opponents around. But he must enjoy it a little, right?
