The Man Who Gave Us Blagojevich Is Trying to Sell Us Giannoulias
Only in Illinois.

Why would a Democrat in Illinois running for the Senate seat that Rod Blagojevich tried to sell want a top Blago adviser speaking for his campaign?
Illinois Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias
That’s a befuddling question. But one that must be asked about Alexi Giannoulias – the mob banker running for the president’s old Senate seat.
In a story which recently ran in the Chicago Sun-Times, the Giannoulias campaign spokesman was Pete Giangreco – the same man who branded Rod Blagojevich as a reformer and stood by the corrupt governor during his re-election bid.
Take a look at some of the great Giangreco quotations from his time with Blago:
Rod Blagojevich was “the first governor in history to pass landmark ethics legislation and to refuse contributions from state employees,” Giangreco told the Chicago Sun-Times on March 2, 2005.
Rod Blagojevich has “done more to reform state government than the other (previous) governors combined,” he told the Daily Herald on May 5, 2005.
With regard to appointments to state boards, it was “clear that the administration is out to get the best and the brightest regardless of political activity,” explained Giangreco to the Chicago Tribune on January 13, 2005.
So, the man who branded Rod Blagojevich a “reformer” is now trying to do the same with a mob banker. Only in Illinois.
