A new poll released Thursday found New Hampshire Democrat Jeanne Shaheen with an eight-point lead over her Republican challenger for the Senate, Scott Brown. The survey of registered voters, conducted by Democratic polling firm PPP on behalf of the League of Conservation Voters, found 49 percent would support Shaheen, the first-term incumbent, with 41 percent supporting Brown.

In addition, 47 percent say they approve of Shaheen's job with 46 percent disapproving, while 49 percent said they have an unfavorable view of Brown, the former senator from Massachusetts, and just 35 percent saying they have a favorable view of him.

The poll comes on the day Brown is officially announcing his candidacy for the Senate.

The PPP poll contrasts with another recent poll, conducted for a Republican group, that showed Brown ahead of Shaheen by five points. Most polls of the race, however, have shown Shaheen with a significant lead, and the Real Clear Politics poll average has her ahead by nearly 8 points. Shaheen reportedly raised over $1.5 million in the first quarter of 2014.
