The sex toy mini-scandal does its work.

Professor John Michael Bailey’s course on human sexuality has been dropped from Northwestern University’s offerings in psychology for next year. The publicity surrounding an optional after-class live demonstration of a motorized sex toy apparently had a sobering effect in the hallowed halls.
We’d like to think some of the credit goes to our cover story of March 21: a lament for the old ideal of the university as guardian and transmitter of serious thought and culture, by Joseph Epstein, who taught at Northwestern for 30 years.
Not that such victories are ever complete. An effort to have the course restored is already under way, according to DailyNorthwestern.com.
And Professor Bailey will not be idle. He’s slated to offer an upper-level special topics course titled, tantalizingly, “Dangerous Ideas.”
