Obama's 'Malaise' Moment

Watching Obama's press conference this afternoon, I was reminded of Jimmy Carter's malaise speech.

Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter

The two presidents offered decidedly different tones -- Carter as the preacher/therapist and Obama as the frustrated school marm -- but both were indicative of the same development.  Carter and Obama had failed to accomplish their core campaign promise, and were left pointing fingers to explain their failure.

Carter had promised a government as good as its people, but in his malaise speech he bemoaned the dimming of the country's spirit. Obama campaigned on changing the way Washington works, and today -- live on national television -- he is venting his frustrations about his inability to change the old processes.

Right now, Barack Obama looks like a president who knows he is failing to do what he promised, and he is visibly angry about it. Pathetic.
