CNN’s The Lead reports that the Washington bureau chief of al Arabiya television, Hisham Melhem, is saying that:

Arab allies now view Obama as "wobbly, indecisive, not strong enough." 

In an interview with Melhem, shortly after his inauguration, President Obama said:

"If we are looking at the region as a whole, and communicating a message to the Arab world and the Muslim world that we are ready to initiate a new partnership based on mutual respect and mutual interest, then I think that we can make significant progress." 

That was back when the arriving elite talked "Smart Power" and Nobel Prizes and changing the world.  Things don't change, it seems, quite so easily as all that and people still, as always, will bet on the strong horse.
