Andrew Stiles at the Washington Free Beacon writes:

Senate aides tell the Free Beacon that Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) has “wait-listed” a bipartisan bill to reform the scandal-plagued Veterans Affairs healthcare system. Before voting on the VA legislation, the Senate will take up Elizabeth’s Warren’s student loan bill, which coincides with President Obama’s latest executive action, announced at the White House on Monday.

This action qualifies as something of a political stunt (imagine that!) since the Warren bill isn’t going to become law any time soon and the VA legislation not only has a chance but is, plainly, more urgent. You could miss a loan payment and not die of it.  Going without some cancer screening procedures is another thing.

And, then, there is this. While the burden of student debt is a problem and one feels compassion for those bearing it, those loans were not forced on anyone. There are a lot of aging and ill vets who were drafted into the military and the country owes them.
