The New Republic's Jonathan Chait says the notion that the Democrats should have abandoned Obamacare in the wake of Scott Brown's election is "a transparently ridiculous argument," and he balks at the claim that "spending less time on health care and more on 'the economy' – where it's not clear the Democrats could have passed anything substantial – would have helped" the Democrats' cause. Chait also disputes the "conservative" idea "that health care reform is the main reason why Democrats are in danger of losing the House."

Reality Check

Pete Wehner replies: "Given the weight of the evidence, it is bordering on delusional to argue that ObamaCare hasn't damaged Obama or the Democrats politically."  As Politico reports, Democrats are plainly running away from Obamacare.  And Rasmussen shows that likely voters now have greater trust in the GOP on the historically Democratic issue of health care by a wide margin:  48 to 40 percent.  Moreover, the poll shows, there is no other issue on which the Democrats have lost such ground since President Obama's election.
