Ramesh Ponnuru has some smart advice for Republicans:

I think the conservative crusade against earmarks is mistaken. But I still think Rep. Eric Cantor is foolish to say that earmarks could come back based on “merit.” Rightly or wrongly, the conservatives Cantor is counting on to get into the majority have decided that earmarks are an abomination. Republicans ought to defer to their wishes on the matter.
