Mitt Romney has joined Rush Limbaugh and five Republican senators in opposing the deal to extend current tax rates for another two years.

A reader writes:

Interestingly, Romney on the one hand implies that the tax deal will create a huge defiict because its temporary nature won't produce stimulating effects while also saying that the payroll cuts WILL create short term stimulus.

Bottom line: Romney has now positioned himself so that if he is the nominee Obama can say that if Romney had his way everyone's taxes would be higher in 2012, and that Romney opposed the tax cut because it didn't do enough for millionaires and billionaires.

Great strategy.

For the record, it's important to note that Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, and John Thune all support the tax deal.
