The Villages, Fla. ![]() When Grandpa Mitt took over the microphone, he delivered his typical stump speech--hitting Obama on the economy and defense policy. Although he's been relentlessly hammering Newt Gingrich at every turn for the former House speaker's ties to Freddie Mac, Romney chose to ignore Gingrich during Tuesday night's speech. The only other notable deviation from his stump speech was that instead of doing his standard recitation of lines from "America the Beautiful," Romney actually led the crowd in singing a verse of it. Romney certainly has a lot to be happy about. Seven days ago, polls showed him losing Florida to Newt Gingrich by about 8 points. Polls now show him leading Gingrich by double digits.
