Yesterday, Ron Paul issued a statement saying that opposition to the Ground Zero mosque "is all about hate and Islamaphobia," and is driven by "the neo-conservatives who demand continual war in the Middle East and Central Asia and are compelled to constantly justify it."

But Ron Paul tells CNN that he didn't mean that his accusation of bigotry and treachery applies to all Ground Zero mosque opponents, especially his son Rand Paul, the GOP Senate candidate in Kentucky who opposes the Ground Zero mosque. Via TPM, Ron Paul says of his son Rand: "I don't know what his position is, but he certainly isn't Islamophobic." Huh? He doesn't know what his son's position is?

CNN's Sanjay Gupta was more than happy to inform Representative Paul:

[Rand Paul] has said President Obama was wrong to weigh in on this controversy and that he is quote  "liberal elitist who believes he knows what's best". That's your son's quote. You and the President seem to be on the same side on this particular issue. Do you have a reaction to your son's comment?

"No, I think you have to ask him about it," Ron Paul replies. Thanks for clearing that up.
