Ron Paul Running Anti-Santorum Ad in Michigan

Ron Paul is out with a new TV ad criticizing Rick Santorum. The ad will air in Michigan, where Paul's a distant third place in recent primary polls. Watch the it below:

The ad attacks Santorum for being a "fake . . . fiscal conservative." The spot says that Santorum "raised the debt ceiling five times" and voted for increased spending and the Medicare Part D program, both of which have been major talking points coming from Mitt Romney's camp. The difference here is that Paul, as a member of Congress, can claim to have been against those votes, whereas Romney and some of his surrogates cannot.

It's worth reading this recent New York Times article, which notes the civil, friendly relationship that's blossomed between Paul and Romney. Perhaps that's why Paul decided not to focus his attack on his buddy Romney and instead try to cripple Santorum in Michigan.
