Mark Sanford, the former congressman and governor of South Carolina, will announce he is running for his old House seat Wednesday. Jim Geraghty at National Review confirms the news in an interview with Sanford:
Sanford served two terms as governor of the Palmetto State, but his second term was rocked in 2009 when it was revealed he had been conducting an extramarital affair with a woman in Argentina.Sanford will run in the upcoming special election to fill the seat previously held by fellow Republican Tim Scott. Scott was appointed to the Senate by current governor Nikki Haley after Jim DeMint resigned the seat earlier this month to take over the presidency of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington.
