Last night, Sean Hannity asked Sarah Palin whether she’d vote for Newt Gingrich in Florida. Palin replied, “Yeah, I’d keep the process going.” The 2008 vice presidential nominee and former Alaska governor said the key question is, “Who is best able to defend our republic?”  She argued, “We find out who that person is, we measure the man, through competition.”

Palin also had some very favorable things to say about Rick Santorum, conveying that part of the reason why she wants Gingrich to do well in Florida is to help the Iowa caucus winner — as the closer the contest is between the top two candidates in the Sunshine State, the less likely the press corps will be to try to short-circuit the national race.

Two weeks ago, I argued that a Gingrich win in South Carolina would benefit everyone except Obama — and that included Mitt Romney. The same, I believe, would seem to be true in Florida.
