Goodwin Liu, a Berkley law professor nominated to sit on the 9th Circuit, was rejected by the Senate this afternoon. Liu needed 60 votes to cut off debate on his nomination, but he only got 52. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska was the only member of the Republican caucus to vote for cloture, while Ben Nelson of Nebraska was the only Democrat to vote against cloture.
