Seven More Competitive House Races

The Cook Political Report has updated seven House races, moving all seven "Solid Democrat" races to "Likely Democrat." The list includes Frank Pallone of New Jersey, David Price of North Carolina, Peter DeFazio of Oregon, Jim Cooper of Tennessee, Lloyd Doggett of Texas, John Tierney of Massachusetts, and Dennis Kucinich of Ohio.

Tierney, who faces Republican lawyer Bill Hudak, is facing scrutiny over his wife's recent indictment for tax fraud. And Kucinich's challenger, Cleveland businessman Peter Corrigan, was considered a long shot until a recent internal poll showed Corrigan within single digits of the two-time presidential candidate.

Here's an update on Pallone's race in New Jersey:

The race for New Jersey's 6th Congressional District seat in Monmouth and Middlesex counties has become closer in the past three weeks.

Incumbent Democrat Frank Pallone holds a 7-point lead over Tea Party-backed Republican Anna Little, 52 percent to 45 percent, according to a Monmouth University Poll made public Tuesday.

A poll taken three weeks ago found Pallone ahead by a 53 percent to 41 percent among likely voters in this district.

"Anna Little's gains have come from a tremendous grassroots effort in her home region of Monmouth County," Patrick Murray, the poll's director, said. Frank Pallone will need to bet on a strong turnout in more Democratic areas of this district to fend off this challenge," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.

With a week left in the campaign, these races are still highly likely to go Democratic, but this report is another sign that the Republican wave is growing.
