With both sides digging in over the cuts and the blame game down Pennsylvania Avenue well under way, the White House sees little hope of replacing the $85 billion in automatic spending cuts anytime soon.

So of course the administration's solution is to further sour and demoralize the country by “hammering Republicans over the issue ... arguing the cuts will hamper economic growth and constrain the military…”

One wouldn't want to let a fine crisis like this one go to waste. So the campaign will go on. And on.

A development that even Tom Brokaw finds disappointing.
