Tom Smith Ad: 'My Dad'

A new ad from Republican Senate candidate Tom Smith of Pennsylvania features a personal testimonial from Smith's daughter, Allison.
"If he's as good a senator as he is a father and neighbor, Pennsylvania will be in great hands," she says. Watch the ad below:
The ad will be broadcast on TV stations across the state.
Smith, a first-time candidate with a farming and coal mining background, has moved within striking distance of his Democratic opponent, incumbent Bob Casey. Casey has a 6.5-point lead in the Real Clear Politics poll average, but a recent Rasmussen poll showed Smith down by only 1 point, 46 percent to 45 percent. The Smith campaign takes solace, too, in the fact that Casey has only in one poll broke through the 50 percent threshold of support since September.
But can Smith pull off the upset? Pennsylvania remains overwhelmingly Democratic, and even in 2010, a great year for Republicans, the GOP's Senate candidate Pat Toomey only won his election by 2 percentage points. And American Crossroads, the conservative super PAC making big ad buys in several close Senate elections, hasn't purchased any time in Pennsylvania for the Senate race. (Crossroads is running two presidential race-themed ads there.) That may indicate the Senate seat is still just out of reach for the GOP.
