Speak For Yourself

Evidently, it is news when a spokesman for House minority leader Nancy Pelosi issues a statement denouncing the "failures of the Republican Congress.”

Nancy Pelosi 0009 3

Could you not, upon learning of this, be knocked off your feet with a feather?

As Laura Barron-Lopez of The Hill reports, this “statement” had the usual things to say about the usual things. How, for instance, Republicans "wasted so much time with 50 votes to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act,” and how "not once did [Speaker Boehner] tell us when Republicans will allow a vote to increase the minimum wage or extend unemployment insurance.”

And (big finish coming) how, "doing nothing is not an agenda - it's a disgrace.”

There is nothing to learn from the statement. It is all the usual barren BS. But it does suggest an interesting question.

Why does Nancy Pelosi need a spokesman to say this for her? Surely she could come up with something just as good, all by herself. Evidently, membership in the elite division of the political class makes you too important to deliver your own witless statements.

Nice work if you can get it.
